The Mustangs jumped out to a quick 4-1 lead at American River scoring twice in the first inning on a two rbi single by Anthony Lucchetti, an rbi ground out by Dillon Tatum in the second, and a two out rbi single by Vinny Bologna in the third. After scoring once in the second the Beavers would score two runs on an errant attempted back pick that sailed into right field with two out and the bases loaded. Starting pitcher Kevin Kyle left the game with a 6-3 lead in another quality start. Kyle went six innings allowing just six hits, no walks, one earned run while striking out nine.
The seventh inning proved to be a rough one for the Mustangs. Nick Dentoni and Joey Morris faced sis ARC hitters and could not record an out. Gunner Mayer entered with the bases loaded and the score tied at six. He induced a double play which scored the go ahead run and a strike out to end the inning.
Trailing 7-6 entering the top of the ninth, the Mustangs would tie the game on a rbi infield single by Anthony Lucchetti. After leaving the bases loaded in the tenth the Mustangs broke through in the eleventh on an rbi single by Thomas Greely and a two rbi single by Blake Dickman. Gunner Mayer would earn the win with his longest outing of the year. Mayer went 4 2/3 shutout innings allowing just one hit while striking out four. Jake Standridge would get the final out via a strikeout to earn the save.
The win pushes the Mustangs record to 27-6 and 13-4 in the Big * while ARC falls to 5-28 and 2-15 in Big 8 play. The two teams will meet on Thursday in Stockton at 2:30 and conclude the series on Friday in Sacramento at 1:30.
