Bio

Jim Fisher enters his 18th season as head coach of the San Joaquin Delta College softball program in 2026 after taking over the Mustangs in 2008. Under his leadership, Delta has become one of the premier programs in California, consistently ranking among the top teams in the state and advancing deep into the 3C2A postseason. Fisher has guided the Mustangs to multiple Big 8 Conference championships and numerous state Elite Eight and State Tournament appearances, including a state runner‑up finish in 2011.

Fisher’s teams have produced a long list of All‑Conference, All‑Region, All‑State, and All‑American student‑athletes, many of whom have transferred on to four‑year institutions to continue their academic and athletic careers. In addition to team success, Fisher has been widely recognized by his peers, earning CCCAA/3C2A Northern California Softball Coach of the Year honors and most recently being named 3C2A North Coaching Staff of the Year in 2024 after leading Delta to a 34‑4 overall record, a Big 8 Conference title, and a No.3 state ranking. That 2024 squad went 22‑2 in conference play and earned the North’s No.1 overall seed.

Since taking over the program, Fisher has accumulated well over 530 career victories while maintaining a high winning percentage among California community college softball coaches, highlighted by a 44‑2 campaign in 2011 that helped further cement Delta’s reputation on the state and national stage. Away from the field, Fisher is known for emphasizing academics, accountability, and player development, helping his student‑athletes succeed in the classroom as well as on the diamond.

Prior to Delta College, Fisher spent the 1998-99 school year at Bakersfield College as an infield instructor. Coach Fisher was also an assistant coach for his alma mater, Fresno State, from 1996-98.  During the summers, Fisher coached the Brewster Whitecaps of the Cape Cod Baseball League and the Anchorage Bucs of the Alaska League.

As a player, Fisher played baseball at Fresno State from 1994-95. The 1995 team won the Western Athletic Conference championship. Prior to Fresno State, Fisher played at Modesto Junior College (1993) and University of Washington (1992). The 1992 University of Washington team won the Pac-10 North title.

Fisher earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Liberal Studies, Master’s Degree in Kinesiology from Fresno State, and a Master’s Degree in Special Education from Sacramento State. Off the field, Fisher enjoys spending time with his wife Terry and their Jack Russell Jasper.
